The Baltimore Ski Club was founded in 1947 when only the hardiest
enthusiasts tackled the slopes. Much has changed in the last 60
years, but not the goals of the club. Continued >> |

February
Happy New Year. Hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season. I am getting ready
for my trip to Telluride, Colorado leaving on January 30, 2010.
This will be my first ski trip since having my knee replaced. I
am really looking forward to getting back on the slopes and hopefully
my new knee is looking forward to it too. As I will be traveling
for the February General Meeting, our Vice President, Beth Muscedere,
will be in charge. Make sure that you don’t treat her like a substitute
teacher and throw spitballs (or snowballs depending on the weather)
at her.
I will be wearing my new metallic gray ski helmet on the
slopes at Telluride. After hearing Jeff Jones’ presentation at the
January meeting, I rushed over to Princeton and bought a new helmet.
He certainly impressed upon me the importance of wearing a helmet
to protect myself from injury. I used the coupon from the Schuss
for $10.00 off the purchase. I encourage everyone to consider purchasing
a helmet.
Our next General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February
3rd at 7:00 PM. The Winter Olympics will be starting this February
so, in honor of the games, the BSC will be holding “It’s Academic
Olympics”, a trivia contest based on the events of the past and
current Winter Olympics. If you think you know all about winter
sports, then sign up to be one of the team members so you can play
for bragging rights as the most knowledgeable about the Winter Olympics.
I understand that there may be prizes for participating.
And with
February comes Ground Hog Day. Will Punxsutawney Phil, the only
true weather forecasting groundhog, see his shadow. According to
legend, if does see his shadow, there will be six more weeks of
winter weather. If he does not, there will be an early spring. Personally,
I am hoping for more winter. Speaking of winter, please remember
to purchase your "50 for 50" raffle from www.winterfeelsgood.com
to help support programs for children to become more active in winter
sports, including skiing. Winners will be drawn on President's Day,
February 20.
The club is currently working on its ski trip schedule
for the 2011 season. The Trips Committee will be meeting later in
February to put together a preliminary schedule. The BSC has selected
a non-ski trip for October, 2010 based on surveys from our membership.
This year the trip will be a tour of England. The tour will include
airfare on British Air out of BWI Airport (October 8-17, 2010).
This “All England” trip will be divided between London and the British
countryside with breakfast included daily. There will be several
day trips included; to Bath, Stonehenge, Cotswoods, Salisbury, Stratford
and Oxford. This trip with everything should cost less than $2200.
Make sure to get in touch with Christopher Pukalski (410-292-6656)
as soon as possible to reserve your spot.
Remember too that our
April meeting will be replaced by a Bull, Shrimp and Oyster Roast
on April 17 at the Parkville VFW. We are putting together a large
basket of cheer to raffle at the Roast. If you have any spirits
at home that you would like to donate, please bring them to the
February meeting.
Please help promote the BSC in any way you can.
When you are finished reading your newsletter, leave a copy or two
in your doctor’s or dentist’s waiting room. The reason magazine
rates are so cheap for doctors and dentists is because people will
read them while waiting. This is a great way to spread the word
about the club. Another idea is to post the trip schedule at your
local supermarket or any place that has a community.
