Greek Peak, New York
Although Maryland was experiencing a warm
spell, thirty-five (35) Baltimore Ski Clubbers enjoyed ski perfect
weather in Greek Peak, New York. Jack Fahey, Marty Schnuit, Joel
Becker, Barbara Powell (sorry, to hear she injured herself on a
later trip – we all hope Barbara is doing well) and Kathy
Molino took up residence in the back of the bus, enjoying pizza
provided by GT Pizza and movies – including the funny Reese
Witherspoon, Almost Heaven. Phil Ansell joined the group with friends
and new club members, Chad, Maria and David Blaker. Kendra Palmer
was a last minute, but welcome addition, to our trip. Snow and cold
greeted us as we arrived at the Courtland Holiday Inn. First night
we spent in the hotel lounge enjoying complimentary drinks, games
of pool, and the Olympics on big screen tvs. Just what we needed
to warm up for our weekend of skiing. Rich Bowerman, Liz Chapman,
Tracey Palese, Daniel J. Snoha, and Bill Shewchuk enjoyed relaxing
in the lounge and making new friends with other trip members. After
a filling buffet breakfast, skiers, Harry Hargadon, Andy Birznieks,
and Ed Lowe headed off to the mountain. Most skiers headed over
to the mountain on the 8:00 AM bus to be the first to hit the slopes,
including Daniel Dobrzykowski and his son, Andrew, for a fun day
of skiing. Everyone had a great day of skiing, with Bill Phillips
capturing the day on film. Saturday night included a buffet dinner
at the hotel, with yummee cherries jubilee for desert. Members,
Marie Gomaljak, Keith Kowaleski, Anthony Leonard, and Michael Murphy
enjoyed a relaxing dinner after a hard day of skiing and visiting
with friends, old and new. Even Eastern Trip Chair, Eileen Karczmarek,
and her husband, Dave Karczmarek, Trips Director, who had driven
up for the day, joined us for dinner. After retiring to the lounge
where members like Rob and Angela Lowe enjoyed more Olympics, everyone
headed off for a good night’s rest for our last day of skiing.
The 8:00 AM bus to the mountain had only one die hard skier, with
most people opting for the later bus on day two. Our club treasurer,
Mark Jones, and Schuss editor, Sharon Albaugh, and new club members,
Dale and Lee Lewis, who joined us on the trip, headed over for another
fun day at the slopes. After a pasta buffet lunch on the mountain,
we all headed back to Baltimore, reminiscing about the weekend events.
Thanks to assistant, Sharon Alsfeld, and Ed Sabala for all their
help on the trip, and to everyone else for joining me (Mary Rose
Cook) on the trip. I enjoyed traveling with the club and visiting
with old friends and making new friends. See you at the post trip
party - April 11 General Meeting; bring your photos to share.
