Catskill Mountians, NY
February 11 - February 13, 2007
Note, this is a mid week excursion, leaving Sunday and returning Tuesday. The intent is to avoid the lift lines and congestion which accompany the weekend rush. Marketed as "the snowmaking capital of the world," Hunter Mountain was the first ski area to have 100% snowmaking and the first to have automated snowmaking. Now the resort has over 1000 tower-mounted snow guns. Hunter is one of the closest major ski resorts to New York City and inspired a Japanese ski resort of the same name. The resort is considered one of the best day-tripping ski areas in the Eastern US, with skiing on three mountains, each suiting different abilities. The runs at Hunter are up to two miles (3.2 km) long on north facing slopes, with the toughest skiing, largely on Hunter west accessed by the Snowlite Express high speed quad. These include Westway, a double black diamond generally regarded as the most difficult. Forty percent of the terrain is classified most difficult but beginners and intermediates have Hunter One pretty much to themselves, with blues and greens. It's a well segregated mountain. There is limited slope side lodging at Hunter, and the option to stay locally in a wide variety of accommodations.

Windham Mountain is located in the great Northern Catskill mountains in the scenic village of Windham, NY. The town of Windham sits along the banks of the Batavia Kill River and features charming architecture ranging from Colonial to Victorian & beyond. Windham is graced with a variety of restaurants, quaint & useful shops, and other businesses & services that may be of interest to you during a visit. The town is also the sight of a number of special events and entertainments throughout the year, in addition to the ongoing offerings of the community's resorts, parks and recreational facilities.
