Aosta Valley, Italy & London, England
February 25 - March 9, 2011
Ski & tour for a week in Aosta, Italy at the base of the Matterhorn & Mount Blanc. Then head to London, England to explore for 4 days and night.

About the Area:
A pair of contrasting characteristics define the appeal of northwest Italy's Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta regions: mountain splendor and bourgeois refinement. Two of Europe's most famous peaks—Monte Bianco (aka Mont Blanc) and Monte Cervino (the Matterhorn)—straddle Valle d'Aosta's borders with France and Switzerland, and the entire region is a magnet for skiers and hikers. To the south, the mist-shrouded lowlands skirting the Po River are home to Turin, a city that may not have the artistic treasures of Rome or the cutting-edge style of Milan, but has developed a sense of urban sophistication that makes it a pleasure to visit. You also taste a mountain/city contrast in the cuisine: the hearty peasant cooking served in tiny stone villages and the French-accented delicacies found in the plain are both eminently satisfying. Meals are accompanied by Piedmontese wines commonly held to be Italy's finest.

Pila sits above the city of Aosta and a huge bowl lined with fir and larch trees. The natural beauty is impressive, what they have done to embellish the area with fine facilities, groomed trails and the best in snowmaking resulted in a very popular place to ski that doesn’t feel crowded. The variety of terrain here is immense and every skill level will find days worth of trails to explore and master. This is also true for boarders that have really special playgrounds of their own which are well thought out and executed.

Bruile-Cirvinia is a cruising, confidence building resort. Good snow and long runs permit beginners and intermediates to progress with confidence. More technical challenges are available on the Zermatt side. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly in the village and on the slopes. The scenery is unmatched in any previous resort with a beautiful panoramic stretching from the Matterhorn along Val D'Aosta to Mont Blanc.

Courmayeur offers great skiing for all skill levels spread out over 24 trails. There are wide open trails to help the beginner skier feel more comfortable on the slopes. Courmayeur focuses on the intermediate level, with about half of the trails being classified as intermediate. There are also several trails for expert riding .Downhill trails are not the only sport options for the resort area. They also offer 35 miles of cross-country areas, heli-skiing, and a great climbing area. There is something for every winter enthusiast.

La Thuile offers great skiing for all skill levels with north facing slopes, which ensure good snow conditions. The wide variety of passes offer terrain for any skill whether it be Beginner or Intermediate. An efficient and reasonably priced heli-ski service is offered. This thrill is widely polular due to its great peaks and close proximity to France (where heli-skiing is banned)

Gressoney - La Trinité is ideal for intermediate skiers, but also has a great beginner section as well. Over three quarters of the trails are classified at the intermediate skill level. The high peaks are attractive to the expert as well as those who wish to partake in heliskiing. There is a wide variety of descents ranging in various skill levels.
