Park City Mountain Resort delivers the goods for skiers and snowboarders of just about every persuasion. This is a big mountain by North American standards, and the lift-served terrain seems to grow every year. The town of Park City is also home to two other resorts (Deer Park and The Canyons), and there are few if any services lacking in the valley. Bars, clubs, galleries, fine dining, fast food, slow food, lodging of every kind... it's all there, including a manufacturer's outlet mall.
Deer Valley
Deer Valley is comprised of four mountains:
Bald Eagle Mountain Elevation 8,400 feet, Bald Eagle Mountain offers ideal terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers. First-time skiers will appreciate the separate, protected beginners' area known as Wide West, accessed by two chairlifts, Burns and Snowflake. The ski area in the real estate development of Deer Crest is also accessible via Little Stick or Navigator ski runs or by catching the Jordanelle Express Gondola, located at the Mayflower/Deer Crest entrance on Hwy 40. Bald Eagle Mountain will also serve as the venue for Deer Valley's 2002 Olympic Games events?Champion, site of the freestyle mogul competition; Know You Don't, site of the slalom events; and White Owl, site of the freestyle aerial events.
Bald Mountain Elevation 9,400 feet, Bald Mountain offers intermediate and challenging skiing along with spectacular views. Strong skiers in search of steeper, ungroomed trails and Utah's famous light powder will be rewarded on numerous runs in the Sultan and Mayflower areas.
Flagstaff Mountain Elevation 9,100 feet, Flagstaff Mountain offers intermediate and beginner ski trails, in addition to extensive gladed areas and access to Ontario Bowl.
Empire Canyon Elevation 9,570 feet, Empire Canyon offers skiing for all abilities with our family ski area, intermediate terrain and some of the most advanced skiing at Deer Valley, including eight chutes and three bowls.
The Canyons
Once a little known ski area geared to the needs (and budgets) of locals, The Canyons has been transformed into a major destination ski resort since its purchase by the American Skiing Company in 1997. With major development in the last few years, the resort now boasts the most lift-served skiable terrain in Utah. Management's long term goal is to create the largest resort in the U.S. in terms of skiable acres.
The "Old Mountain", as the locals refer to the terrain that has been around since the resort's early days, is a combination of wicked fall lines and expansive open areas. Some of the runs face to the east resulting in a lack of snow in the late season but generous natural snowfall keeps the resort open to early May.
Among the newer terrain, 9990 is the peak for experts. This mountain has everything: bowls, chutes, trees, bumps -- you name it. Backcountry terrain is also accessible from the summit.
